We understand that a visit to the dentist’s office is not always considered the most comfortable thing, but we wish to change that. Not only do we pride ourselves on providing superior service and care to our patients, we believe that your dental appointments can be made all the more smooth and comfortable if you know what exactly to expect. To that end, the following is what you should expect during your first visit to our office:
Filling out new patient paperwork. This is very important as it gives us valuable general health information, as well as information about prior dental care and any restorative or cosmetic treatment you may have received. We recommend arriving fifteen minutes prior to your appointment in order to fill out your new patient paperwork, or prepare it ahead of time and bring it with you to your appointment.
A thorough consultation, discussing your current dental needs and concerns. It is very important to us to understand your past dental care as well as your current dental needs and concerns so that we may better provide the high-quality service and treatment you need. We encourage you to ask questions during this time, as the more you understand your own dental care and overall health the better we can work together to improve and maintain it.
A thorough dental examination. The dentist will thoroughly assess the health of your teeth and oral soft tissues, taking x-rays as needed to determine exactly what treatments are necessary to either restore, improve or maintain optimal oral health. If you have received dental x-rays within the past year, please let us know as it may be helpful to acquire copies of these images.
In some cases, your first visit may include a thorough dental cleaning. If the dentist receives all of the information he needs in order to move forward immediately and if time permits, you will receive a full, professional dental cleaning in order to remove plaque and tartar and polish your teeth. In some cases, however, the dentist may desire to more thoroughly review the information provided through your consultation and examination prior to designing a treatment plan that will include a dental cleaning. In this case you may be scheduled for a follow-up visit at which you will receive your dental cleaning.
Finally, we will schedule your next visit. Once again, we encourage you to ask any and all questions you may have so that we are better able to work together and provide you with the superior dental care you deserve and have been searching for.
Please remember: if you have dental insurance, it is important to bring your insurance card along on your first visit so that we can enter the appropriate information into your file and make the appropriate financial arrangements.
